CBR Tests

The California Bearing Ratio (CBR) Test is a penetration test for evaluation of the mechanical strength of natural ground, subgrades and basecourses beneath new carriageway or highway construction. The test allows you to identify the CBR values of different soils and surfaces, the higher the CBR value the harder the surface.

The basic site test is performed by measuring the pressure required to penetrate soil or aggregate with a plunger of standard area. The measured pressure is then divided by the pressure required to achieve an equal penetration on a standard crushed rock material.

Detailed information on our CBR Testing services can be found on our sister website cbrtesting.com

The Plate Bearing Test (or Plate Loading Test) is an insitu site investigation field test used for determining the ultimate bearing capacity of the ground and the likely settlement under a given load.

The Plate Load Test basically consists of loading a steel plate placed at the foundation level and recording the settlements corresponding to each load increment. more info >>
